TYME CAPSULE
Love Turtles Club Journey
In Thailand, there is a belief that releasing turtles into bodies of water near temples will give you good fortune. However, this act has negative impacts on the ecosystem that surrounds the temples. The ponds become overcrowded with ill turtles and the water gets polluted. The objective of the club is to help abandoned pet turtles and turtles living in festering temple ponds by going out and finding them and properly rehabilitate them into the wild.
I have always been involved with this organization since I was young. I enjoyed visiting these sites with veterinarians, treats the ill turtles, and relocates them to appropriate habitats.
Funding is crucial when it comes to helping these turtles. The club is constantly looking for ways to generate more fundings. I decided that I wanted to also help the organization raise funds. So I connected my dad’s houseware product company to the organization’s campaign. I suggested the club sell customized reusable water bottles in which I designed the graphic logo. Encouraging people to use reusable bottles will save not only the turtles, but also the environment. The bottles were sold out shortly and I was able to raise some money for the club. Even though it might not be a ton of money, but every small contribution helps.
When you visit temples in Thailand, you will see many vendors selling turtles, fish, and birds. They can be purchased and released into the nearby pond and river. I personally would suggest not to foster these activities and think about the consequence of our actions. I think it creates more harm than good. It's really sad to see these turtles living in extremely poor conditions.
I am going to continue to contribute my help to the club as long as I can. I am very honored to be part of this initiative. If you are interested in joining our effort, please click the Facebook page above and become a member!
